Department Aim & Vision

The Department of Pedodontics has a clear and distinct vision. We focus on monitoring and helping the child through his healthy infancy, childhood and adolescence and teaching the students how oral health impacts the overall health of the individual. Our faculties are committed for training in clinical excellence, innovation in academics and initiation of intuitive research. Goal of the Department

Upon completion of this course the student should be able to. 

1.Identify and differentiate between normal and abnormal somatic dento- facial and psychological growth and development. 

2.Understand child behavior and anxiety and be able to communicate and manage children showing apprehension and moderately disruptive behavior using behavior management techniques.

3.Collect all appropriate information from child and parent, approach towards an accurate diagnosis and formulate appropriate therapy for common oral health problems in children 

4.Provide treatment for mentally, physically and emotionally handicapped children and also for the medically compromised patients. 

5.Recognize and manage medical emergencies commonly encountered in children and adolescent undergoing treatment. 

6.Develop a preventive program for an individual patient. 

7.Follow referral system. 

Teaching Activity of the Department 

Faculty of the department is committed towards an excellence in teaching schedules. At present student to teacher ratio is 4:1. Each faculty member spends an average of 5-6 hours daily with the students. 

There is provision of two classes per week for the III B.D.S Students and two classes per week for the IV B.D.S students. 

Undergraduate students are trained regularly by case history discussions, demonstrations, viva and seminars. Post graduate students are trained by case presentations, discussions, journal clubs and seminars. Post graduate students are encouraged to present papers and posters in conferences and conventions. All the students are regularly assessed by departmental, class and internal examinations and viva-voce.

4.To keep prevention as the prime area of focus and strive towards a healthy next generation.


1.Maintenance of harmony in function, arch integrity and esthetics of deciduous teeth.

2.Dental caries prevention and treatment in primary and young permanent teeth. 

3.Child oral health care education to parents and going to be parents.
